Street Vendors’ Stalls on Jalan Bendungan Melayu Demolished

North Jakarta Satpol PP demolished at least 26 out of 250 street vendors’ stalls on Jalan Bendungan Melayu, RW 01, Rawa Badak Selatan Urban Village, Koja Sub-District, North Jakarta, Friday (8/1). The operation is scheduled to be conducted until Monday (8/4). At this time, most of the street vendors are still on holiday in their hometowns.

We had controlled them in last April, but now the street vendors are back again. For solution, we have prepared relocation place in Alur Laut Market on Jalan Alur Laut

“As many as 100 personnel are deployed. For street vendors who are still selling, we urge them demolish their own stalls. If on Monday they are still selling, we’ll demolish their stalls,” stated Head of Koja Sub-District Satpol PP, Siti Mulyati.

According to Mulyati, similar operation had been carried out in the same location in last April. But now, the area is packed again with street vendors’ stalls.

“We had controlled them in last April, but now the street vendors are back again. For solution, we have prepared relocation place in Alur Laut Market on Jalan Alur Laut,” she uttered.

Responding the massive control’s plan on upcoming Monday, Safrudin (45), one of the street vendors, admitted objected. He hopes the government would do arrangement instead of controlling.

“If could, just do arrangement. Because if being controlled from here and relocated, I’m worried my income would be less,” expressed the man who has been selling kue pancong (shredded coconut in rice flour) on Jalan Bendungan Melayu since 10 years ago.
